Your teeth are under attack within minutes of eating. Routine dental cleanings help to remove stains, and tartar, other dental problems apart from other deposits between your teeth and gums, to get good oral hygiene.
About Tooth Cleaning
A dentist is a specialist who works on your gums, gum line, gum tissues, teeth and oral cavity to keep them in the best of health and make sure that there is no tooth decay. Healthy teeth and gums are essential for a healthy body as they form the entry point for all the nutrients that you eat in food.
It is a very routine procedure that is performed by every dentist in their office. The main purpose of it is to remove tartar and calculus built-up on your gums and teeth, as these contain bacteria that can lead to dental cavities and gum disease.
The primary goal of a dental cleaning is to remove plaque (a biofilm that contains bacteria) and calculus (tartar) from both above and below the gum line.
Why you need a dental checkup?
There were some of the problems you face in your daily life:
1. Do your gums bleed every time you brush your teeth? Are you avoiding flossing because it makes your mouth hurt?
2. If left unchecked, gum disease can cause tooth decay and possibly respiratory and heart problems.
3. Smokers, seniors, and people with diabetes are at higher risk, but anyone can get gum disease.
Professional Dental Cleaning Process
During the dental cleaning process, our dental hygienists will perform a full physical examination of the mouth. They will examine the health of the teeth and gums for any signs of periodontal disease or other concerns. X-rays may be taken for diagnostic purposes to search for any tooth decay.
Once the physical examination is complete, the dental hygienist will utilize either an ultrasonic scaler or metal instruments to begin the cleaning. These instruments will help remove the plaque buildup on the tooth’s surface and gumline.
Scaling removes the tartar build-up from the surfaces of your teeth. Your hygienist will manually scale your teeth by gently scraping the tartar deposits away or use an ultrasonic scaler that removes larger deposits with gentle vibrations and a stream of water.
Polishing uses a safe, abrasive paste to remove stains from your tooth surfaces. Smoothing your tooth surfaces helps prevent plaque and tartar build-up on your teeth.
